Build Nigeria 2026 · Off-Grid Power
SolarShare NG
It enables households to share solar electricity with neighbors affordably, while tracking energy usage and costs.
Built by Team KEPH FUTO, FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, OWERRI
The problem
Many Nigerian homes with solar systems generate excess electricity during the day that often goes unused once batteries are full. Meanwhile, nearby homes and small businesses still experience power shortages and rely on expensive generators, whereby, those on solar could share their solar energy by purchase of units. Hence, there is currently no simple way for neighbors to safely share and track solar energy usage within a community.
Who it is for
Homeowners with solar installations in estates, communities and neighboring households or small businesses that need affordable electricity but cannot yet afford a full solar system.
Latest from the team
Our product is currently at the concept and planning stage. The team has developed the project concept, preliminary system architecture, bill of materials and six-week development milestones. The proposed design places our product between the solar inverter’s AC output and the individual AC loads. No complete prototype has been built yet.
