PowerSense

A smart plug-in wall socket that lets you track power costs in Naira and control your appliances from anywhere.

Built by HezTec, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Awka, Anambra)

The problem

Many Nigerian homes and small businesses lose money and overwork their generator or inverter systems because they have no idea how much electricity their appliances are actually draining. Standard appliances like deep freezers, ACs, and water heaters often consume massive amounts of power, causing prepaid meter tokens to exhaust unexpectedly or battery-backed inverter systems to trip and run flat overnight without warning. Right now, if you are away from your home or business, you cannot monitor what is running, track exactly how much it is costing you in Naira, or turn off a heavy appliance to save your backup power when grid power (NEPA/disco) cuts off.

Who it is for

Apartment tenants, homeowners, business owners and companies using prepaid meters or backup solar/inverter and generator systems.
