Build Nigeria 2026 · Smart Agriculture

PoultryGuard

Monitors poultry activity and temperature, alerting farmers to unusual flock behaviour and unsafe brooding conditions.

Built by Ebenezer, Federal University of Technology Akure

The problem

Poultry farmers cannot watch every bird all the time, especially when managing large flocks or attending to other work. Unusual inactivity, changes in flock behaviour and unsuitable brooding temperatures can go unnoticed until birds become weak or losses occur. Regular manual inspections take time, while ordinary cameras only show footage and depend on someone watching. PoultryGuard aims to make monitoring easier by automatically checking flock activity, tracking temperature and displaying early warnings so farmers can investigate potential problems sooner.

Who it is for

Small and medium-scale poultry farmers, especially those raising chicks or managing flocks that are difficult to monitor continuously by hand.

Latest from the team

Our Build Plan has been approved for BUILD NIGERIA 2026! We've spoken with poultry farmers about the challenges of monitoring flock health, temperature and safety. We're now preparing to build our first prototype, which will combine live camera monitoring, automatic detection of unusual flock activity, temperature readings and a simple web dashboard. Our first hardware testing milestone is 8 November 2026, followed by a working prototype demonstration planned for 22 November.
