Build Nigeria 2026 · Embedded / IoT
MindDrive
A wheelchair you move with your thoughts, for people whose hands can no longer move it or are weakening.
Built by Mindrive, Veritas University of Nigeria
The problem
Picture a wheelchair user whose legs can’t carry them. The chair is their freedom to the shop, the window, the people they love. Then the hands start to fail too. Pushing the wheels gets harder. The joystick gets harder to hold. One day the chair won’t move at all. That is the day freedom becomes a seat. Even the simplest movements to the bathroom, the compound, church or mosque, now need someone else. Things many of us take for granted. And that person might be busy, tired, or not there. The mind is still sharp. They know exactly where they want to go. Their body just can’t say it anymore. The cost isn’t only money. It is privacy, dignity, and the small choices that make a life your own.
Who it is for
Wheelchair users, joystick or manual, whose hands are weakening or can no longer move the chair, and families and carers who help them. If this is you, someone you love, or a cause you believe in, press “I’d use this” and join us.
Latest from the team
Building starts on 26 October. The brain-signal software already runs in a small bench demo. Now it will be put to work on a wheelchair. First goal (8 November): one wheelchair motor, started and stopped safely. Then (22 November): the full chair, steered by thought, shown to a real buyer. Follow along. Every “I’d use this” tells us this is worth finishing.
Would you use this?
9 people have said yes so far. Tell the team, and tell them what you would pay. It helps them build the right thing, and it counts towards their score.
